  The new album Cosmic Mass is not very romantic, but rather more philosophical. Questions of the meaning of life worry all of humanity, as East as well West: who we are, where and what for we are moving can be understood only by a broad-minded look. Cosmic Mass is a put up to a new level of understanding of the eternal question. Perhaps the answer is somewhere near, perhaps identical as in the film The Fifth Element. The music from the new album could well become a track for the movie. This is a high level when pictures and whole plots appear from sounding notes.

  Wow.
  This is a much more challenging listen than Mauro’s most recent releases. Cosmic Mass demands your attention and rewards you richly. At times reminiscent of King Crimson, at others sounding as though Miles Davis had joined Gong, this is an exploration of the music that made the man. It makes me think this is the album Mauro always wanted to write. It’s certainly the one I wanted him to write. A deeply personal Cosmic Massterpiece, Mauro should be a lot more well known. .
  
  
  #COSMICMASS Dave Francis: Mauro's latest release, "Cosmic Mass" starts with a Hendrix style intro with, of all things, backwards phasing, which might convince the listener - given the title and cover - that this is a hearkening back to the early days of psychedelic space rock.
  The Timothy Leary voice over at the start is a bit of a hint as well.
  Space rock, a much maligned genre these days, suffered a sad descent into tedious third rate rock with "spaceman" lyrics by the early 1980's, but here, Mauro has hit the nail on the head, producing a modern interpretation which hints back to the early glory days of the genre with elements of jazz mixed in as well. Some of the chord progressions remind me very much of Hendrix, who seems to have had a big influence on Mauro's (excellent) playing.
  So I sat back, waiting for a jazz style space rock album, and then had a surprise. This is a highly inventive jazz album, which encompasses a mass of musical styles there's swing bass in there, with keyboards taking over brass parts, there are even some rap elements (not my taste but you have to applaud the inventiveness) - all underpinned by Mauro's excellent playing.
  When you think you've understood where the music is going, the album suddenly turns to slow blues, ambient style free jazz on the title track, there's tabla drumming, and hot latin rhythms to close the album off.
  Every single track takes you somewhere completely, radically different.The playing is absolutely excellent, Mauro's jazz influences are far ranging and highly polished, and the quality of the recording is extremely good.
  A very inventive and extremely well played album which takes you on a musical journey to just about every destination you could think of. Including outer space, no less.
